Big states thought they should get more representation in Congress because of their bigger populations, so they were all for the Virginia Plan. Small states were like, hold up this isn’t fair, and they were fans of the New Jersey Plan. See that? Virginia is kind of a big state, and New Jersey is a really small state! Makes sense. In the end, they agreed on the Senate and House of Representatives structure that still exists today.
